Skye - Day 4 & 5
I spent the most of the day driving around and enjoying the views. Starting with a short walk to see the remains of Uisdean Castle. Ended up in Portree then drove over the centre of the island and arrived at Kinloch campsite for the night.
The next day at went to Dunvegan Castle early to avoid the crowds. Enjoyed a walk around the castle and gardens. There was the obligatory group of school children and American tourist who claimed descent from the local clan.
I drove to the headland to visit the coral beach. However the car park was overfull and I decided to try my luck elsewhere.
Waternish peninsula is known for many craft shops and quaint villages. It has its own version of the Fairy Bridge. The villages were picturesque, Stein being a fishing village with a gourmet restaurant and a (better) local pub. Trumpan has a roofless church where the MacDonalds set fire to the MacLeods whilst at prayer; The Battle of The Spoiling. (Not recently - just to clarify).
I then took a walk to the end of the peninsula passing by a memorial to Roderick Macleod, killed at the Second Battle of Waternish. An ancient dun and its associated homesteads, Dun Borrafiach, was a fitting reminder of the length of time man has occupied this area.
After dinner at the Stein Inn, I headed back to Kinloch for the night.
